Constraint Singularities of Parallel Mechanisms

چکیده
The concept of constraint singularity is introduced. This is a phenomenon occurring in parallel mechanisms with reduced freedoms when the screw system, formed by the constraint wrenches in all legs, loses rank.

Singularity-Free Fully-Isotropic Translational Parallel Mechanisms
Parallel mechanisms show desirable characteristics such as a large payload to robot weight ratio, considerable stiffness, low inertia and high dynamic performances. In particular, parallel manipulators with fewer than six degrees of freedom have recently attracted researchers’ attention, as their employ may prove valuable in those applications in which a higher mobility is uncalled-for. The att...
متن کاملKinematic and Dynamic Analysis of Tripteron, an Over-constrained 3-DOF Translational Parallel Manipulator, Through Newton-Euler Approach
In this research, as the main contribution, a comprehensive study is carried out on the mathematical modeling and analysis of the inverse kinematics and dynamics of an over-constraint three translational degree-of-freedom parallel manipulator. Due to the inconsistency between the number of equations and unknowns, the problem of obtaining the constraint forces and torques of an over-constraint m...
متن کاملSingularities of parallel manipulators: a geometric treatment
A parallel manipulator is naturally associated with a set of constraint functions defined by its closure constraints. The differential forms arising from these constraint functions completely characterize the geometric properties of the manipulator. In this paper, using the language of differential forms, we provide a thorough geometric study on the various types of singularities of a parallel ...
متن کاملKinematic Control of Parallel Robots in the Presence of Unstable Singularities
Parallel mechanisms frequently contain an unstable type of singularity that has no counterpart in serial mechanisms. When the mechanism is at or near this type of singularity, it loses the ability to counteract external forces in certain directions. This paper considers an interesting alternative to redundant actuation through the application of additional kinematic constraint via passive joint...
متن کاملTrajectory Singularities for a Class of Parallel Motions
A rigid body, three of whose points are constrained to move on the coordinate planes, has three degrees of freedom. Bottema and Roth [?] showed that there is a point whose trajectory is a solid tetrahedron, the vertices representing corank 3 singularities. A theorem of Gibson and Hobbs [?] implies that, for general 3-parameter motions, such singularities cannot occur generically. However motion...
